Autobiography The first day in ninth grade when I starting marching for the color guard for the Bangor Slater Marching Band, I had a feeling that something was special about the music world. When I marched down the football field I knew something was unique about being a part of music. Hearing the crowd respond so loudly gave me chills down my spine, feelings that I never experienced before. Later that year I decided to play the euphonium and be more apart of music. There was a thrill and overall fun that the Bangor Music Department offered. I found myself in later years of high school, enjoying music so much that I stayed after school and learned privately from my band director. I found the gift of music to be breath taking because it was pleasurable to express feelings that words cannot. I was and still am excited to perform music especially around Christmas time because I loved to get an instrumental group together and go caroling. To be honest, I never knew what music offered me until I graduated and went to Penn State University at the Hazleton Campus. I went to college as a business major interested in computer science, the main reason being that my brother graduated with this degree and has much success. Penn State was the school of choice because both my brothers went to the university and I knew some things about the school. Well when I got to the Hazleton Campus, I decided I was going to still perform music but the problem was there were no music activities at Hazleton. At first it did not bother me that I was not playing music anymore but as months went by urges grew in my mind. I decided that I had a great time in life when I was a part of music. As days and weeks flew by at the Hazleton Campus, I found myself craving music to such a degree that I bought a horn and decided to become a music major. So how does this pertain to reasons why I decided to be a music teacher? Well first of all I was a recreation counselor for Bangor Park Recreation in which I ran activities for the 5, 6, and 7 age group. I was very involved with this group and had a blast in a teaching position. So when I was sitting in my dorm room at the Hazleton Campus of Penn State University, I had a thought in which I would pull both my interest music and counselor involvement together. Therefore I decided to become a music educator and provide a music program that is very fulfilling, satisfying, and thrilling for students just like the program that was provided for me. |
